as i sit here pondering the existence of bagel's and cream cheese, i got to think how someone so foolishly could have just decided one day to make a bagel or a donut. in all honesty, you know a danish baker some 1000 years ago didn't just happen to make a bagel. i bet he spent days trying to make some thing else and ended up making a bagel where upon someone walked over and said "damn, that is good - what do you call these?" and low and behold a bagel is born.

what is funny is that many of the worlds greatest inventions or discoveries happen by mere luck or happenstance as an inventor or scientist or whomever stubbles across something that was once over looked by every one else. for instance, Chris Columbo set out to find the fastest path to India. instead he landed on the southern states and confused as to why these Indians were shouting at him (did you catch that – Indian’s came from India with an N on it.. amazing.) he had thought he had found India but called it "New India." he was only about 5000 miles off course, but the guy seemed to have hit the jackpot.

for a long time, we thought that the world was flat – and then some one had the balls to attempt to take a ship and we found out that it was not true. the great Newton had an apple drop on his head to discover gravity. Bill Gates took a chip that was out there and then used it to make his own. Henry Ford was probably messing with his truck in his garage and BOOM a FORD was born. scientists are always looking for ways to save people from one thing and then they find a discovery for something else.

in New Guinea there are tribes that haven't been touched by the outside world and they seem to have a very primitive lifestyle – yet their intelligence is far more vast then our own. why is this you ask? because they have to figure out ways to survive and we do not, and they find it amusing that we can't build our own house or hunt for our own food. yet, we think it's funny they live in a shack and do not have the latest iPod. who should be laughing at whom?

it does seem that a lot of things in history just seem to happen at the right/wrong time and lead us to wonder what the next big thing will be. and whenever we think we know what that next thing will be, somehow someone proves us wrong ten times over. it is the way of the Gods to tease us with randomness and insecurities. maybe this is all just some big joke to the creator of this universe, and maybe we are just his toy to amuse himself.

and then i got to think about how uncertain life is. we do not know whether we are going to be famous or unpopular, crazy or funny, unique or like every one else. this is what makes life so fascinating and curious. the thought that we will never know until it happens and even then, we still do not realize that we have it. we can all act like we know, but in reality we don't even know for sure what would happen tomorrow, as we still have to make it through today to find out.

irony in hand, i think we take a lot for granted as well. i think we forget that as a society so advanced today, we take things for granted. we do not realize the destruction of our choices until many years later. until when it is too late to really reverse the problems we have created. a perfect example of this would be the automobile and our dependence on it as a source of transportation which at the same time is very well killing the planet. our dependence from oil has led us to destroy natural resources and rain forests in order to meet our ever growing demand and deplete air. to access one thing we have to take away from something else.

and i'm not one to ask for the world to be a better place or to beg that we stop using oil. i just think we need to do a better job of how we make the decisions we make as they will impact us sooner or later. if i'm going to come back to this planet some thirty thousand years from when I die, i would want people to still be around as human beings and not be a tree or a bug. haha.
